Customer Rating: ![]() 06/16/2010 External DVD RW/CD-RW Drive by UliZ I had purchased a small computer and they don't come with CD drives. I was looking for something that was as compact as the computer was and found this Toshiba 8x External Portable USB 2.0 Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive that was perfect and didn't cost more than the computer did. It plugs into the computer with a double USB connector and uses the power from the laptop to run rather than having to plug it in. It makes it great and as portable as the computer so if I have to use a CD/DVD I don't have to have a power sorce to use it. The size is also perfect, in the past the external drives were almost as big as the computer and this one isn't and works great. Two Thumbs up. |

Customer Rating: ![]() 05/27/2010 Flaky Drive by MQMQ Now it works, now it doesn't... No changes in setup, from one successful disc burn to the unsuccessful next I get error "0x80020025 - this disc could not be used because the disc drive is not supported". Then often the system won't let the drive pop open and I have to disconnect it, stick the pin into the hole to force the tray to open - not a good scene. It might be that the lack of an a/c adapter (by design) means it doesn't get enough power from the USB bus when there are many other USB devices on the same bus. In any case, flaky performance means it goes back. |

Customer Rating: ![]() 05/16/2010 Poor product support by Kitten505 Though the unit is compact and doesn't need an external powersource, it's software installation guide leaves MUCH to be desired. Trying to install winDVD was an ordeal because the installation screen asks for a serial number. After a search through various enclosed booklets in multilanguages (none of which, incidentally, mentions a thing about serial numbers) I found the number in microscopic print somewhere on the installation cd itself. You'll have to remove it then use a magnifying glass to read it, not to mention it's full of i's that look like 1's and o's that look like zeros. By the time you work it all out you'll probably have forgotten what you bought it for in the first place. |

Customer Rating: ![]() 04/18/2010 Great Product by czorn This is basically what it's advertised to be - a good external USB DVD reader/writer. If performs well and has given no problems in the first 60 days of use. |

Customer Rating: ![]() 04/03/2010 Good portable by shame05 Like I mentioned before, the quick set up guide should specify which serial number to use. |

Customer Rating: ![]() 04/01/2010 Good value for price! by Cynomysrex Good value for the money! It was well packaged and fairly easy to set up. The only problem I had was loading the DVD play software, that, for some reason, didn't load right the first time. |
