The POG Blog

One of the craziest obsessions we all had back in the mid 1990's was wanting to buy and collect those little carboard circles. Remember? The ones that had all types of designs, pictures and graphics to entice you to spend a quarter on a piece of cardboard that only cost .0000000001 of a cent to make? Oh yeah, we all loved the pogs. Maybe more so if you were a kid or had kids in the 1990's, but don't lie, even if you were an adult during the mid 90's you still fell into the hype of this odd and random game.
You may have not known this, but the POG originally got its name from a brand of juice made from Passionfruit, Orange and Guava. So take the first letter of each of those wonderful juice ingredients and you get P.O.G. or POG. The bottle caps of this famous juice were actually the start of the phenomenon of the game that is known as POG. Some POG historians say, the use of these bottle caps and the design of the POG game may have been originated as early as the 1920's in Hawaii, before becoming a mainstream, commercialized game for all to enjoy across this world in the 1990's. The World POG Federation and the Canada Games Company were responsible for reintroducing this mindless game to the public in the 90's. Yes, there really was a World POG Federation, and people devoting their time to making this game mainstream during the MTV generation. They felt that MTV wasn't important enough for the youth of the world, they also felt that the youth of the world needed this time wasting game that cost more to collect than even baseball cards.
No, you will not find POGS for sell here at Cowboom. You will find wonderful electronics and accessories for sale though. The real reason for this POG blog, is simply to remind you of an odd phase that swept through the world at one time. It's ok, we all fell into the hype of the POG. And I know, after you read this, you are going to dig out your old dusty collection, and call up your buddy from middle school to play a rivoting game to bring back old times.
